Espresso without the electro

Presso_1It's not made from recycled metal, crafted by a well-paid co-op in Indonesia and doesn't magically make coffee beans organic. But the rather gorgeous Presso does make a mean espresso without electricity. All you have to do is stick your beans and boiling water in the top, push down on the levers and - et voila (or whatever the phrases is in Italian) - one cup of espresso. I'm something of a newbie to coffee, but I borrowed a Presso a while back from a retailer and have to say it does the job just as well as a regular hob espresso maker. If you don't get one for the mild energy-saving credentials, get one for the design - it looks mighty handsome in the kitchen. £50 from Kitchen Knives Direct.
