The Cult of the Mukluk

MuklukMuch to our distress, big fugly boots seem to be taking over the world. Now that every chav is wearing Uggs, it‘s time for the celebs to go one up on them. These are Mukluks, or as we like to call them, ‘bunny cull boots‘. They’re made with real rabbit fur, you see. Mopsy, Flopsy and Cottontail all died so Kate Moss could spend $395 on looking ridiculous. We’re currently taking bets on how long it will be before someone wears them with a bikini in LA. Paris Hilton, come on down…

Mukluks are sold out in the US, but Glamour Magazine has found out where to buy them in the UK. Be prepared to join a waiting list.

Lol, Google Ads have come up with things about Peter Rabbit!

Real fur is horrible. Ew.

What is wrong with everyone? The poor animals! Note to celebs: It suits the rabbits better, stop being cruel!

Posted by: Abbey | 18 Dec 2004 18:35:42

It doesn't suit the rabbits better! If you don't like them, don't wear them and don't buy them. But leave the rest of us alone. Kate Moss: they look great on you! And PS: the ones she is wearing are from rabbits that were cloned. What's your stand on that issue?!

where can i buy these mukluk boots any websits that sell?

Posted by: janice | 28 Dec 2004 20:54:17

These boots have been made by the Native Canadians so that they could survive the cold winters here. They originally were given as presents that were a gift of love because of the extremely long time that they take to make.

The Native Canadians use every aspect of the animal including meat bones and fur (they are not wasteful unlike everything else in our society)

So in response to the synical comments about mukluks I would say the trend is supporting native canadians (which I entirely approve of), however, if you are worried about buyign into a wasteful culture please do not buy mukluks that are mass produced by names such as chip and pepper that are creating factories in the US.

For more info e-mail me at shekata@hotmail.com (I have access to native canadian mukluk makers in my area)

Maybe if the girls who had such strong opinions on the killing of rabbits, spent a bit more of that energy on researching the native canadian way of life, you will see that Tara is right. It supports the people who make them and there families. Most of what they make dreamcaters ,mukluks, clothing, bedding ect is made from animals. And as Tara said they dont waste anything. They are one with nature and very spiritual people.

That is all well and good for the native canadians but do you really think that they are using every aspect of the Rabbit to make these mass produced monstrocities? I highly doubt they give a crap about what happens to the Rabbit - just all the cash that lands in their pockets. I also doubt that many of the wearers are aware of where the idea comes from. So if you'll excuse me, Ill carry on disliking them with a passion and leave them to the Native Canadians , to whom they apparently belong.

Why leave fur wearers alone? Well b/c its not right. If you knew half of the things what happens to fur bearing animals you probably wouldn't think that way. As far as Canada they're standard for killing foxes for fur is to anally electrocute foxes which can take up to several minutes to die. They kindly passed there tradition on to america. So yeah celebrites are really stylish wearing their fur SMOKESCREEN promoting death which promotes money. Don't believe me? Check it out for urself at furisdead.com

Bunnies arent killed for mucks, they are raised for food in south america and the skins are just surplus imported to make the mucks. Bet they taste good....yum!

I too bought a pair of native indian canada mukluks. Met the person thru muks.ca who made them

Posted by: aboriginal | 7 Sep 2007 05:25:05

I like the fact that the mukluks are made by Canadian Native Indians who are displaying their beading art craft instead of 6 year old children in China who should not be making fur mukluk boots but going to school!

haahahaha u eat them anyway so y not wear the fur thats left over!!!! How do u think the cavemen survived... by running round in circles?!?! Nah man they wore FUR and SKINS so shut the fuck up with ur “I’m too good to wear fur!!” We wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for animal skins!!

Posted by: Laura | 7 Jan 2008 19:23:40

i mean really shut up. I dont care what any of you people think because in my culture mukluks are worn because those are the rescorces my people had to make shoes. They are more than just some trend in hollywood, and many native american tribes make them. you may think its cruel but its part of my culture, dont knock stuff just because white america likes to steal other peoples culture.

Posted by: tasha | 28 Feb 2008 05:58:02

I have read every ones comment !! the ones who disagree about mukluks killing the rabbits just for the sake of fashion lets say !! maybe its not !! as it has been said that canadians wear them to keep them worm in there country !! how about eating pork ? isnt that killing animals too? or eating dolphin meat ? or beef or fish? or these animals are not very pleasant nor it has a heart ?
