Shiny Review: Siemens SL65

sl65-thumbThe Siemens SL55 was the quintessential small phone, setting the standard when it arrived last spring. It was neat and adorable-looking, with a splendid sliding mechanism that worked well and impressed in equal measure. Any day now its replacement, the SL65, hits the shops. Where the SL55 was tiny, the 65 is just small. Its increased size allows it to fit in a VGA camera, though there’s still no room for Bluetooth, dammit. Still, the screen’s improved (65,536 colours instead of 4,096) and the design is sleeker than ever in its silver-with-a-black-stripe livery.

Will it replace the SL55 in our hearts? No, but by George it’s better for texting now the key size has been increased a little. Of course, it still has Siemens’ exemplary operating system and all the little extras we’ve come to expect in our mobiles, from alarm clock to sound recorder, unit converter (do you know how many kilowatts there are in one horsepower?), calculator and stopwatch. Everything except Bluetooth, then. Still, the camera can take video and the joystick is a huge improvement on pretty much any other direction pad on the market. Expect to pay about £100 with contract.

bought this for my son for xmas, £235 bit pricy but it only comes round once a yr.

ive had a go with it to make sure it works...lol, n heres what i think...

looks stunning

easy to get round and all functions...keypad camera etc etc r set out well

my only gripe is camera and video quality, compared to other phones ive seen its a bit poor esp photos taken indoors.

oh and 1 more thing there is already a firmware upgrade on siemens website which is sposed to better the picture quality (why? says to me its been rushed out) upgrade doesnt work with the usb cable ive bought, any help appreciated

I've got to be honest and say this phone is nothing special what so ever. In trying to make it more practical than the SL55 they have taken away the 'sexiness' of the slide phone.

My major problem with this phone having owned it for 3 months is its reliability. My old Nokia 3210 from 4 years ago was a whole lot more reliable than this and phones have come a long way since then. My major problem with this phone is the fact it keeps turning itself off, at least 5 times a day for no reason what so ever. This is very annoying especially when people are telling me they can never get hold of me.

The other problem is it often crashes during applications. Although I have never used one I would suggest you should buy the samsung e800 as it has loads more features and from the past two samsungs I have had, I would suspect an awful lot more reliability over the siemens.
