Yay or Nay: Ban underweight fashion models?
The Association of Fashion Designers of Spain said it wanted to project "an image of beauty and health" for the Madrid show - so they banned overly thin models. The World Health Organization recommends a BMI between 18.5 and 25, so the Association had medics on hand and rejected all would-be models who fell under 18 (which would, for instance, ban the depicted Kate Moss). Does this change your interest in Spanish fashion? Do the designers have the right to depict their creations exactly as they wish, or should they have to do so within socially constructive parameters? Should the ultra-thin models be allowed on the Madrid runway? Post your Yay or Nay in comments. [GT]

Yay. Fashion is about looking great and feeling confident, so when you see the stick-thin models on the catwalk, it can really irritate some people.
And also, most of the people who are going to be wearing the clothes aren't really thin, so it's nice to see people who look normal modeling, as it gives a more accurate impression.

No, I don't want to see underweight models. I want to see healthy models!

Yay- maybe we'll start to see change in the modelling profession and its ridiculous standards now!

Yay! Too many teens are literally starving themselves in an effort to look like the underweight models they see everywhere. Let's replace them with real people of all shapes and sizes.

Apparently the clothes hang on them better, so why not just use a brush handle fixed to a roller skate? Let's face it, what positive contribution does the work of a fashion model give to humankind? We could lose them altogether.

We loathe skinny fashion models. They send a very negative image out to young girls which can result in eating disorders. BAN THEM.

why does it matter? you wouldnt want to see 'real' models anyway. girls are too picky about EVERYTHING. it doesnt matter if it was a stick thin model or a really fat model. there are always going to be people that are against it. reality is, theyre on the catwalk not you. if there were no skinny models on the catwalk there are still going to be skinny people in the world to compare yourself to, that you want to be like. choice is yours.
