Fair Trade elephant quilts
Fair Trade Quilts & Crafts provides handmade, fair-trade goods from all around the world. Decorative Indian cotton is a specialty of theirs, similar to the Bombay Bedspread Company, but they also distribute Guatemalan jewelry and ceramics, leather bags from Nepal and a variety of elaborate scarves and tapestries. Shown here is a mirror bedspread from India, lavishly embroidered with elephants and tiny mirrored pieces which provide a lush backdrop for your private space. At $185 USD for queen size, $195 for king, they're within most budgets - but if not, read on.
Inveterate bargain hunter that I am, my favourite part of their shop is the sale and overstock items, including an appliquéd bedspread for $29 USD, a patchwork quilt for $90 because the dye was slightly off colour (like myself) and leather satchels for a rather astounding $35. With queen sized embroidered throws marked down from $150 to $35, such as the one depicted here, how can you possibly justify buying anything of unknown ethical provenance? [GT]
