Special weekend report! Meet TREAD, the new product from Solio
I was napping by the koi pond with a nicely frosted gimlet when my laptop booped. "Go away," I muttered, turning over in the mid-May Canadian sun - both rays of it. "It's the weekend."
"But it's from Adam - thegreenguy," my laptop - an aluminum Powerbook named Parker - said anxiously. "He's got big news!"
"Can't it wait until Monday?"
"He got his TREAD from Better Energy Systems."
"So?"
Parker revved her fan exasperatedly. "They made the Solio!"
I sighed. "I'll get my pants."
Then I remembered. The great thing about the internet is, you don't need pants.
Made from recycled Columbian truck tires (and I agree with Adam's bemused observation that surely there are local tires in need of recycling and involving less of an energy cost in transporting materials - but maybe there's some particular reason we're not aware of), obviously TREADs are black. They are "handcrafted reengineered rubber," which they note is hardy stuff. "Hey! They were good enough for the truck. Military-grade Velcro and robust nylon thread provide outstanding protection for your iPod even under the most extreme conditions." I'm not sure I buy that red, green and fuschia accents make a "wide variety" of colour options but the design of the treadmarks is a low-key and pleasant aesthetic, the prices are good and the idea itself is outstanding. And I bet the Powerbook/MacBook Pro case would be very good for your warranty.
Now back to boozing gently by the pond... Damnit! John darling, could you mix me up a... yes, Parker drank mine. Yes, again.
