Have I read the programme title correct? Three month's after their new self-sufficient lifestyle began and the vegetable garden is growing in abundance, the pigs are gaining weight and the water wheel is powering the house lighting. The Strawbridge's seem to be showing that it IS easy to be green!
The permaculture guru, Patrick Whitefield, returned to praise Briget on her fast progress (thanks to the help of Anda) and advised her on a field of rubble. Son James, as ever was on hand to dig a big hole and hallelujah, the soil below the stones showed promise. If you fancy going on a permaculure course or reading the magazine (pictured), visit Patrick's site for details.
Whilst James opted for a well earned surf. Dad Dick, he with the moustache, was using an old gear box found in a neighbour's garage to connect to the magnetic generator. For a minute I thought I was watching Scrapheap Challenge again, the drawings were all there, but I still don't really understand it!
Several chicken's from a battery hen rescue centre in Devon were given a lovely new pad at the Strawbridge's farm. But Dick was not too impressed by Briget's attempt to talk chicken. She's already decided that she can't bring herself to eat the pigs, will the chicken's be off the menu too?
Next week, the family will be trading in a gas guzzler for a sustainable fuelled vehicle and they will be building a wood burning stove ready for the winter. I've got to admit that I'm mighty jealous of their sun filled days gardening and working the land. Will it be so easy to be green as the weather changes? I can't imagine anything wiping the grins from this happy and very green family. [Ella]

Am I showing my age here? - because the one thing I am fascinated about the most is how well brought up James and Charlotte are! They are clearly their own people, with their own lives and agendas...
... and yet they are happy, pleasent, succesful people who can hold a converstaion!
What are Dick and Bridget's secret? - how did they bring up two such charming and normal kids?! - and as soon as I find out I am doing whatever it is that they did: our own First Born Urchin is now 18 months old - and I want him to turn out like they did!

The heat sink/solar powered fan combination in their greenhouse is inspired.
This programme does make you feel as though sustainable practices like these are achievable for normal folks.
I hope the book is as good as the series.
