Polti steam cleaners
Why fool around with harsh cleaners when you can just steam clean? Steam kills dust mites, which improves your air quality. With the Polti Vaporetto 2400, in fact, you can clean mattresses. (Gross but true: 10% of your mattress's weight is - I told you this was gross - dust mites eating your dead skin flakes. Now I bet you really want a steam cleaner.)
The Vaporetto 2400 cleans upholstery, carpets, cookers, tiles, sinks, mattresses and windows, using nothing but tap water. It has been awarded the British Allergy Foundation seal of approval.
The Lecologico vacuum cleaner line, which uses plain water as a trap for all the gunk it picks up. Again, this is great for your air quality, and it means you don't have any disposable bags. Just pour the water down the drain. I don't know how much the Lecologico vacuums cost, but the Vaporetto 2400 is available from Amazon for £259.98.

That sounds really good, but what about the envioronment?
It can't be very efficient creating that much steam for constinant periods of time. That would be like filling a kettle full of water and forcing it to stay boiling.
They might just use water, but how much electricity do they use?

The 2400 in particular is rated as a 1500 watt device, which is comparable to a space heater, so it probably does use quite a lot of power. It would be interesting to know more about whether steam cleaning (high power consumption without chemicals) is more environmentally sound than using chemicals plus elbow grease.
